How to reduce Lag in Second Life or why is SL so slow ? How can i speed it up?

You have a problem with poor performance in SL?
Second Life is slows and laggy?
Everything just jerks slow and jercky?
All objects are grey, and all Avatars are a cloud?
You can not move your Avatar properly?
Nothing reacts on your clicks?
The chat has a awefull delay, or does not work at all?
You got a LAG Problem!

Lag (latency) has several reasons:
Second Life is not a game all content and interactions and scripts are user created.
Your whole environment is editable and interactive, so everything has to be loaded and synced in real-time. Therefore for the best experience you need a decent PC and fast Internet (like DSL). The better your hardware is the better everything looks in SL.

Sometimes there are just too much egoistic avatars on one spot.
Everything attached slows down the whole environment for everybody.
Especially weird scripts, Animations like dances, AO’s, HUD’s, scanner, and even too much hair and bling does slow down.

If you are visiting a big event, you should know some ground rules, to help improve everyones experience.
1. All attached scripts, Huds, and animations should be detaches (right click)
2. Reduce your “draw distance” inside your “Graphics” options:
Your computer does not need to load/sync all the objects wich are far away from your avatar.
So just press  “Ctrl - P”  (MAC: “APPEL - P”) to open the PREFERENCES and then goto “Graphics”.
There you must choose the “Advanced” Button.Then search for the “Draw distance” ruler and set it to 64 Meter.

If you are already in this menue, it makes sense to reduce some of the other settings. Just play around and find your personal settings.
Particels have a great impact also.
